Station News and Updates:
We have officially rolled out our Digital Archive Project to update the metadata in our Music Library! Please, if you have not already, check out the Digital Archive Project Folder in the Google Drive which all of you should now be shared on. Link is here. There’s instructions and information on how to get involved. Once again, we need your help to make this project happen!
While participation in this project is not officially required, we will note the folks who do participate and those folks will be considered first for upcoming DJ residencies and other BFR “perks”. Also all new music submissions must be submitted in this new format. I have added a spreadsheet “log” in the New Music Submissions folder, please fill that out every time you upload a new folder. If you do not follow this process we will not be able to add your music to the library!
If you have questions about this process at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Also shout out to Cole for being the first non-staff or intern to work on this project since it launched! We appreciate you!
Upcoming Events
Our next Monday Mixdown will be Monday, December 19th at Brass Union with Jessie Chouinard and one more DJ TBA. Let me know if you are interested in this slot! Come join us for a night of drinks and dancing to live BFR DJs in the classy casual back room of Brass Union. Play some shuffleboard, try your luck at the classic arcade games, and grab some pals for board games and beers in the lounge with an eclectic mix of our best Boston Free Radio playlists. All are welcome, 8pm-11pm, no cover!
Our next advisory council meeting will be held on Monday, December 19th from 7-8pm (right before the Monday Mixdown). Note this is a change from our usual time. I will be heading out of the country very early Friday morning and need Thursday night to pack and get ready! Also FYI I will be out of the country from Friday, December 23rd to Monday, January 9th. Please contact Adam Stone if you have any issues during that time!
We also have some open slots available on the Duck Village Stage at Aeronaut–let me know if you are interested!
Equipment Updates
We now have an iPad that can be taken out specifically for BFR DJs to broadcast on Facebook Live! Please note that you may NOT broadcast live if you play licensed music during your show! It will be flagged and taken off Facebook, and we can get in trouble. We encourage you all to post your live show on the BFR main FB page, and then share it to your page afterwards–this helps us build buzz as a station and gets our target audiences engaged, which builds up our entire station, not just one show. Then we also will have those videos there in an easily accessible archive. In order to take out the iPad, you must check in with someone at the front desk, and complete a brief FB live training with either Adam or myself.
New Shows and Shoutouts
Please welcome our newest member, Paul Governor, who will be doing a pre-recorded morning show called “In the Wee Hours with the Guv”! Paul comes with a lot of experience booking and promoting for local acts in Boston and beyond, and got his start in radio at a pirate station out in California. We’re excited to have him on board!
Congratulations to Kirk Burns, our newest Member of the Month! Check out his super fun profile here: https://www.somervillemedia.orgs/kirkburns/ and make sure to tune into the Misery of Cities, Mondays from 8-9pm! #ClassicKirk
That’s all for now!
Thanks,
Heather
