Tribute to Somerville Pundits producer Jim Campano, 1941-2023

SCAT will celebrate the life of Jim Campano, co-host of The Somerville Pundits, in a block of programming airing Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Born in Boston and raised in Boston’s West End, when he was 17, Jim saw his beloved neighborhood called a slum after years of neglect by the city of Boston. When his family was evicted from the West End, the Italian-Lithuanian family moved to Somerville.

Living in Somerville as part of the diaspora of West Enders, Jim became an activist. He was the founder and writer of West Ender Newsletter, and was the president of the Old West End Housing Corp. Jim became the first president of The West End Museum when it opened its doors in June of 2004.

As a co-host of the Somerville Pundits, Jim encouraged all of Somerville to call in and vent about anything and everything going on in the city. Early shows required a phone cord that would run from the front desk to a television studio.

The Somerville Pundits block airs Wednesday at 4 p.m. and Thursday at 5 p.m. this week.

James J. Campano died Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was 82. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the West End Museum.
