Joining the Somerville Media Center is a great way to learn media skills, meet new people, and get involved in your community. All Somerville residents are encouraged to produce programs that present their point of view, express their creativity, and inform their neighbors.
SMC provides a safe space where members of our community can learn to create. Want to learn on your own? Take a few classes in how to use the equipment and then take it out to experiment. Want to learn while doing? Answer a crew call announcement, joining while BFR and SCATV live streams local events, get technical support on projects and never hesitate to contact us to chat more about your projects. We are here to help you succeed!
We are proud to participate in the Card to Culture program, a collaboration between Mass Cultural Council and the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector, by broadening accessibility to cultural programming.Â
We offer EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare cardholders free one-year membership and discounted certification classes. See the full list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.
To learn more about SMC, public access television, community radio and how to produce your own television or radio show, request a New Member Orientation. The session is free and open to the public. Attendance is required for all new SMC members. You can find our upcoming orientation dates online here. Please join SMC and take advantage of low-cost training, free access to media equipment, and staff advice!
You can join the award-winning, neighborhood friendly group of producers and creators at SMC who have been keeping free speech alive since 1982!
